Black Medaka Ricefish

Black Medaka Ricefish, Oryzias latipes, is a black colour variant of the japanese ricefish. It contrasts beautifully against bright leaf plants and substrates. They naturally inhabit shallow bodies of water like rivers and rice paddies in East Asia. They prefer temperatures between 64°F and 75°F (18°C and 24°C), and a pH of 7.0 to 8.0. It is recommended to keep a school of them in 10+ gallon aquariums. 

These fish are incredible hardy when it comes to temperatures and can tolerate temperatures as low as 44°F or 6.7°C. This allows for them to be kept out over the winter in ponds that have aeration and are deep enough (2 feet).
