Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.)

Bristlenose Pleco, Ancistrus sp, commonly reach a size of 4-5 inches depending on their sex. They originally come from the Amazon basin and tributaries but are widely bred in captivity for the aquarium trade. They are quite hardy, handling pH from 5.8-7.8 and a temperature range from 73-81°F. They are usually brown, green or gray coloured with white and yellow spotting. Bristles begin to appear at around 6 months when the fish reach maturity. These fish can be kept in 20+ gallon tanks.
