Norman's Lampeye Killifish
Norman's Lampeye Killifish
Norman's Lampeye killifish, Poropanchax normani, are small, peaceful freshwater fish known for the iridescent blue or white "lamps" in their eyes, which glow under aquarium lighting.
Native to slow-moving rivers, swamps, and floodplains in West Africa, these fish have slender, silvery-blue bodies that can reach up to 1.5 inches in length. The shimmering reflection from their eyes is their most distinguishing feature and adds a unique sparkle to any aquarium. Lampeyes are schooling fish, and they thrive in groups of six or more, where they exhibit their best colors and behavior. They prefer soft to moderately hard water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5 and temperatures ranging from 22-26°C (72-79°F), making them adaptable to a variety of freshwater setups.
