Tiger Barbs

Tiger Barbs, Puntigrus tetrazona, come from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Bornea in South-East Asia. They can grow up to 4 inches but are usually smaller when kept in aquariums. Tiger barbs are silver-yellow bodied with 4 vertical black stripes, red fins and snout. They prefer a pH of 6-7.5 and temperatures between 77-82°F. They can be quite aggressive to certain types of fish and usually establish a pecking order within their shoal. Good tankmates for them are catfish, platys and danios. They shouldn't be kept with slow or long finned fish.
