Rabbit snails, Tylomelania sp., are a cone-shaped freshwater snail native to the lakes and rivers of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Rabbit snails can grow to about 5 inches in length, with shell colors that range from yellow, brown, and black to various patterned varieties. Unlike many other snails, they give birth to live young, usually producing one or two offspring at a time, rather than laying clutches of eggs. This makes them less likely to overpopulate an aquarium. Rabbit snails are peaceful and compatible with a variety of tank mates, including small fish and other invertebrates, making them ideal for community tanks.

They prefer harder water (pH 7-8.5), with temperatures between 22-28°C (72-82°F), mimicking their natural tropical environment. A well-planted tank with soft substrate is ideal, as they enjoy burrowing and grazing on algae, biofilm, and decaying plant matter.
